Someone I interacted with maybe 4 times and was taught by once.

Daily writing prompt
Who was your most influential teacher? Why?

For such a straightforward question, I am surprised that so many responses popped into my head.

From a teacher who used to forget my name but believed in my potential,

to a teacher who pushed me well beyond my comfort zone,

to a teacher who always kept her door open,

to a teacher whose each word I remember,

to a manager who made me realize the power of my skill,

to to a boss whose kind and humble leadership style humbles me instead,

I have at different stages of my life found different learning to be most influential. I think of a different teacher when I face tough financial decisions, I think of my father when I face challenges in cooking, and a different person when I have to make an important career choice.

The list goes on.

But one thing, one thing has reassured my heart in the uncertain times of unemployment and the inner eye that spirals down and shows me all my pessimist conjured demons.

A senior professional had once said to me:

You skill is your biggest insurance.

If you can keep your skills up to date and know the value they provide you will never be entirely lost.

If you are willing to work, you will never be lost.

If you are prepared to abandon all the things you have learned and relearn, it will take time to find your anchor and burrow it deep in the new shores, but you will never be lost.

And this thought alone, has helped me sleep at night.
